Spartacus and the 3rd Servile War in 28mm

Last summer I finally got to one of the projects which has been purchased but not started pile for a number of years. After visiting Mt Vesuvius, I knew I was going to paint my 28mm Rebel army for Spartacus and the Servile Wars.
I already had a 28mm Caesarian army more or less ready, though I knew it could grow a bit as well for this project. The scenarios and the research as always were a big driver behind getting this project to the table.

Figures I used for the project included 1st Corps, Warlord Games, Old Glory 25’s, Victrix (for many Slave conversions), Aventine, and an Crusader Miniatures.

Osprey was helpful in publishing their Campaign book for the Servile Wars just in time for my interest and painting to converge.

We used Hail Caesar 2nd edition for these games. I find new players can pick up the rules easily, and I want my ancients games to be approachable.

A mightily impressive collection! I wish I had your stamina in sticking to a project! Can’t say I’ve heard of Hail Caesar, but then again it has been a good twenty years since I last gave ancients a consideration(back then the choice was a simple one between DBA and WAB).

Thank you. My sons both said about the same thing – I just wanted to get it done. I feel like I can be focused when there is an in-coming con. Last summer it was Historicon. (The Romans won the Silarius River game – 2/2 now).
